![]() |
Minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, the Maple Leaf was the first .9999 fine 24-karat gold coin and raised the standard of fineness. Prior to the Maple Leaf, the only readily available 1 ounce gold bullion coin was the 22-karat South African Krugerrand. These legal tender coins, first minted in 1979, are produced from gold mined in Canada. The obverse displays Queen Elizabeth II and on the reverse a maple leaf. Available in 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/10 and 1/20 ounce sizes. | ||
